Why do airlines ask business or pleasure?

Airlines ask this question to determine whether you are traveling for business or pleasure.

If you’re traveling for business, they will try to accommodate your schedule as best as possible.  If you’re traveling for pleasure, the airline may provide more amenities such as food and drink.

Airlines have a responsibility to make sure that they are not carrying someone who is inadmissible into the United States.

The question “Business or Pleasure?” helps them determine if you are eligible for an ESTA, which allows you to travel without a visa and stay up to 90 days.

If your answer is “Pleasure,” then airlines can deny you boarding because of the risk that you may overstay your time limit.

Again, Airlines ask “business or pleasure” because they want to know how much luggage you are bringing with you.  They also use it as a way of determining whether or not your ticket is refundable.

Business travelers often have more luggage and may be less flexible about changing their flight plans, while leisure travelers usually have fewer bags and can change their flights at the last minute if needed.

Airlines ask about the purpose of the trip because they use that information to determine which airport they should fly into. If you are flying for business or vacation, it is a good indicator of how much time you plan on staying at the destination.

It is important to know which type of flight you are booking. Business or pleasure? Airlines ask for this information because different categories of flights carry different baggage fees and snacks.

If you book a business flight, your carry-on bags will not be checked. But if you book a pleasure flight, your bags will be checked twice. Also, some airlines offer better snacks and amenities for business passengers.

Some airlines will offer wine with dinner if it is a business flight. But if it is a pleasure flight, they will offer soda or water.
