Events are performed over varied distances for teams or individuals, with contestants competing across timed obstacle courses.

Rugged Maniac has been described as a combination between mud runs and obstacle course racing.  Initially, the event was held in four cities: Palm Beach, FL; Raleigh-Durham, NC; San Diego, CA; and Doylestown, PA.

The 2016 course was significantly changed from prior courses to eliminate the use of water and mud altogether and increase the overall difficulty of the course itself.

Who is the Founder of Rugged Maniac?

Brad Scudder, a former attorney and the company’s founder and CEO, founded Rugged Maniac in June 2010.

Rob Dickens, the company’s co-founder and COO, formerly worked as a corporate lawyer on Wall Street at Milbank, Tweed, and Hadley & McCoy.

The inaugural Rugged Maniac event was conducted in Southwick, Massachusetts, in October 2010, with approximately 2,000 race participants.

Scudder utilized his money from the previous two years as a lawyer to bankroll the event, which included 330-person racing waves every half hour and a party for racers with music, food, and alcohol.

Since then, the festival has grown to 30 event days throughout the United States and Canada.

At the fall of 2015, the largest event, held in the debut New England venue Southwick, MA, attracted nearly 12,000 total race participants.

Rob graduated from Washington and Lee University of Legal and worked for a New York law firm. He is still employed by the firm, where he holds the positions of COO and CMO.

Brad studied law at the University of Connecticut and worked as an attorney for a business in Massachusetts.

They will, however, stage race events in 20 locations around the country. Brad anticipates sales of $4.2 million with a profit of $1 million, whereas Rob anticipates sales of $6.5 million with a profit of $2 million.

The sales pleased the Sharks, and Rugged Maniac need an extra $2 million investment.
