Zup was embroiled in a patent litigation in August of 2018, around 7 months after the show aired. They were in talks with a business named NASH about collaborating on some boards.

NASH agreed to a nondisclosure agreement, but the deal fell through. NASH soon began manufacturing its own wakeboards. The judge decided against ZUP in the lawsuit.
