Tom Armenti founded the Fat Shack concept in February 2010 in Ewing, New Jersey (home of The College of New Jersey), running from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. in a bagel restaurant (which operated at the location during the daytime).

Tom would re-open the bagel shop after the workers had gone home for the day and run his new late-night eatery from 6 P.M. to 4 A.M.

Armenti introduced his fat sandwiches to Colorado, and he alleged that his meal was well-received. Kevin Gabauer, his best buddy, was enlisted to assist him with the business.

Armenti relocated to Fort Collins, Colorado, in August 2011 and launched the first full-scale Fat Shack restaurant.

It has 28 corporate and franchise-owned restaurants in eleven states as of October 2021.

How Many Fat Shack Locations Are There?

Kevin Gabauer, Armenti’s college classmate and close friend, joined the firm in Fort Collins and partnered with the founder to restructure the menu, update the brand, and streamline operations.

Fat Shack built a second location in Boulder six months later.

Fat Shack celebrated the grand launch of their first location in Denver at DU in February 2015. Interstate expansion began in Denton, Texas, after many additional facilities were opened in Colorado.

Fat Shack currently boasts 28 outlets around the country, including virtual kitchen delivery models in Chicago and Philadelphia.

Mark Cuban, an investor, agreed to pay the duo $250,000 for a 15% stake in the firm.

Hundreds of franchise requests came in overnight, and within 48 hours after their Shark Tank pitch, the team had gathered over 3,000.

Why Did Mark Cuban Invest In Fat Shack, The Franchise Selling 2,000-Calorie Sandwiches?

Two startups proposed businesses that specialize in each of those delectable delicacies on the past episodes of Shark Tank.

One struck a deal with Mark Cuban, while the other walked away empty-handed, with only a lecture from Cuban on the ethics of investing in an “unhealthy” food firm in the midst of the country’s obesity crisis.

Mark Cuban informed the first founder that he would not support her ‘unhealthy’ business.

Then he invested in Fat Shack, a Fort Collins, Colorado-based company that offers triple-stacked cheeseburgers, wings, and sandwiches loaded with Philly cheesesteak, onion rings, and jalapeño poppers, and received $250,000 from Mark Cuban.

Tom Armenti and Kevin Gabauer, co-founders, agreed to fork up 15% of the company in exchange for $250,000 from Mark Cuban.

In an email, Cuban stated that he invested in Fat Shack because he loved Armenti and Gabauer.
